We want our older population to feel that they can contact the surgery if they need healthcare and signposting to additional support services. Age also brings elements of reduction in one's quality of life. The resources at the bottom of the page cover some important areas such as advice on wills, power of attorney and social activities. Some resources will help you if you are feeling lonely. Stay active, seek help and support, and keep engaged with your GP practice if your circumstances change. This page provides some information related to ageing well. It is not exhaustive but gives a flavour of what you should know and what you could do to help yourself prepare for ageing; we all will age - let's prepare for it. We have added 7 simple home based exercises for you to look at. Take care when you do them - start slow and build up. Its quality over quantity.

Age related common issues -

  • 1. Dislocations A dislocation happens when a bone moves out of its original position.

  • 2. Fractures As you get older, your bone mineral density will reduce drastically. It's important to contact the practice if you break bones in your wrist or arm. These are called fragility fractures.

  • 3. Osteoarthritis This is a degenerative disease that affects certain joints of the body, specifically ankles, hands, fingers, knees, and spine.

  • 4. Osteoporosis Everyone’s bone mass peaks at the age of 30 and then declines thereafter. Women need to change and adapt as they get older as they are most susceptible to this condition.
